Ph.D. Damian Flisak

Legal advisor. He has many years of experience gained in the renown law firms Gessel (2006 – 2008) and Wardyński & Partners (2008 – 2013), as well as Head or Co-Head of Legal Departments of EADS-PZL Warszawa-Okęcie (2005 – 2006, an aircraft company) and Polish Post (2013 - 2016).

Damian advises clients on a broad range of legal matters, which are related to the functioning of the media, to the issues pertaining to industrial property rights, press law, unfair competition, violation of personal interests, advertising, sponsorship, personal data protection, and domain-related disputes. His primary area of interest is copyright. For many years Damian has intensively been studying the intellectual property law, what has led him to a Ph.D. degree at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. He wrote the dissertation on the phenomenon of multimedia work.

Thanks to his intensive academic work and collaboration with leading Polish law firms, he has gained unique, expert experience. Damian has written numerous scientific and popular publications, including a monograph on copyright and a commentary on the Polish Act on the copyright and the neighbouring rights as one of the authors and scientific editor (Wolters Kluwer, 2015, 1560 p.). He is lively participating in the Europe-wide debate on the current copyright related issues. Thanks to his achievements he was proposed a membership at the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP).

Damian speaks fluently in English, Spanish and German. As to the latter he is also authorised to conduct sworn translations of German into Polish and has co-authored one of the largest Polish-German dictionaries on the market (Pons Verlag). He specialises in translating complex legal texts.

Damian is also an arbitrator at the Court of Conciliation for Internet Domains at the Polish Chamber of Information Technology and Telecommunications in Warsaw and lectures at the Koźmiński University in Warsaw.
